As technology advances and new innovations are alway on the horizon, society becomes more and more reliant and reluctant to use artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is the ability of a digital computer or a computer controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. While many corporations see a positive future with AI, many citizens are concerned with what the incorporation of AI into society will do to jobs and privacy.
AI can be used for anything ranging from digital assistants to managing national security. More and more, AI seems to be replacing jobs humans can do with computers and robots, which is expanding unemployed working class. Given multiple examples, it seems that AI has affected the car industry the most. AI has replaced manuel assembly line workers in most auto plants and thus creating a massive income inequality in areas that are reliant on auto workers to fuel the economy. However, AI tech can have positive outcomes like producing more efficient work on faster time lines and at a lower, making it hard for the cons to outweigh the pros in the eyes of corporations.
While AI can be used for good and can contribute to the technological advancement of society, AI has also been utilized for more uncertain circumstances. Many believe that AI has contributed to invasion of privacy of the common folk. AI has the capabilities of tracking, facial recognition and the storing of personal data that can be harvested and sold to big tech and even individual countries. China has one of the most advanced AI governance initiatives involving street cameras with high tech facial recognition and even posted forms outside of peoples homes, detailing who lives there. While this can be a positive for national security, This use of AI as a form of control is the most oppressive and restrictive way this technology is used and unfortunately it only looks like the beginning.
